Twitter Analytics: For Free Tools, Excel Cheats, and Inside Tips

Is Twitter dead? Probably not.

Twitter gives Google full access to its tweets.

Twitter is using this traffic without logging in to the platform.

If you are a blogger, marketer, or business, Twitter should be a part of your overall social media campaign. Tweeting is essential to building brand awareness, relationships, and is a powerful tool for change.

While Twitter offers its analysis to everyone, many are not using it to its full potential. Apart from tweeting, here are some basics you can find about the Twitter account and any hidden messages.

1. Twitter is fundamental to the analytical dashboard

In mid-2014, Twitter opened its analytics platform for all users. Everyone with a Twitter full access to the gold mine.

From the dashboard, you can get lots of information like impressions, engagement rates, link clicks. whenever, before that, you need to understand the definition of each metric to make your data meaningful.

The Twitter blog has it all.

If your Twitter campaign is to increase impressions, you need to monitor a specific metric and find the best way to improve impressions. Keep an eye on each metric and compare data with previous months. You will know if you are doing things right because you will see a steady increase.

Now, take a closer look at the details of each tweet, you will find more hidden messages.

Here's how the details of that particular tweet look:

If your business is focusing on this link, do the A / B test on it. Monitor key metrics by writing different headlines, adding a different hashtag or different image, and find a better way to maximize the reach of a tweet.

Analyzing these data statistics is the first step in evaluating your tweet performance.

In March 2015, Twitter launched a new account home page. This page will save you a lot of time by providing you with a monthly summary of your Twitter activity.

This dashboard makes it easy to advertise on Twitter in business. You can now make a quick decision on whether a tweet is worth it without spending time through the minute details.

If Twitter Analysis is a piece of information that you have overlooked, let's try it today. Focus on the metric and improve it from there. This will have a good effect on time.

Updated:

On May 27, 2015, Twitter updated its analysis of Audience Insights. This feature has a more batter detailed breakdown of your follower's interest, such as demographics, lifestyle, mobile footprint.

This is good for the business platform because you are now able to compare organic followers to Twitter users. At this time, only US users are tracked. You can do a comparison study between your fans and other Twitter users.

Audience insights help them improve their strategies on Twitter.

2. Analyze alternatives to Twitter

There are many social media management tools available on the market such as Buffer, Hootsuite, Retetag, Cloud, etc. There are a few that focus solely on Twitter, such as Tweetdeck, ManagementFilter, and SocialBrow.

All the tools serve a purpose to make your life easier.

Many times, the tool will give you deeper insights into your Twitter performance. This is different from what you get from a local Twitter analytics platform.

Here are 3 platforms that I find relevant and easy to use for beginners.

Buffer (freemium)

Buffer is a popular social media management tool. You are allowed to schedule tweets at any time and set different schedules every day. This is especially important when you are running different campaigns.

Using Buffer, you should be able to analyze statistics for each tweet. The buffer will label your potential tweet as the top tweet. You can take immediate action to improve or rewrite each tweet.

Twitter analytics can't give you that right away.

With a free account, you have limited access to Buffer's analytical data. You'll need to upgrade to a paid account to enjoy a detailed analysis of your data.

Retetag (independent trial)

Rite tag is a social media tool that focuses on the hashtag. It comes with hashtag color ranking, quick engagement analysis, and total post validation. Rettig continuously analyzes the hashtag, which allows you to maximize your reach before sending a tweet.

This is a feature you can't get when you tweet from Twitter's native platform. It is important to add a hashtag to maximize your tweet exposure. RiteTag will definitely fill this gap.

Take a few minutes to find out the hashtag stats you are using. Is your hashtag overused or without proper monitoring?

Postchap (free)

Post cap (formerly known as twitcup) Free Twitter diagnostic tool. It analyzes how often a tweet is mentioned and your followers tweet again.

Analyzes how your Twitter is performing. You find out which users are most mentioned. And, there is a list of statistics related to your tweets and retweets.

Moreover, Postchap gives you the geographical location of the people mentioned. From there, you can have a complete overview of your audience’s location.

While Twitter Analytics has such information, PostChoop makes it easy to understand analytics in a more attractive way.

If you are still tweeting from the Twitter native platform, I strongly recommend you to try some tools. You have lost a lot of valuable data.

If you're not sure what to start with, try the one I shared above. All the tools are easy to use and make your Twitter work easy.

3. Compile Twitter data using Excel

Aside from the analytical data you get from Twitter's native platform and social media tools, you can always do your own analytics.

Often, those who like to work for themselves understand this data well. This is not a difficult task. You just need to export data from Twitter Analytics and Excel Spreadsheet.

Here are some simple analyzes I came up with using data from @WHSRnet. Before you go into analysis, you must first know what you want to get from the data.

Your Twitter data is another spreadsheet containing columns and letters, with no clear goal. I would like to know:

Does a standard tweet or reply tweet make a good impression?

Does a standard tweet or reply tweet offer better engagement rates?

Which day of the week has given me the most impact on average?

Which day of the week has the best engagement rate?

Let's review the step-by-step guide:

1. Open Twitter Analytics page (CVS Format) in Excel

2. Turn your data to a table with headers

3. Use the Excel left function to come out with a date in the new column

LEFT ([@ time], 10) to come out with a date

4. Use the Excel Text function to convert the week to a new column

TEXT (E2, "DDD") to return the weekday

5. Sort out the standard tweet using Excel or answer the tweet in a new column

IF (LEFT ([@ [tweet text]], 1) = "@", "reply", "standard")

6. When you have all the data ready, analyze your data using a pivot table or pivot graph

The graph below shows the overall picture tweet and replies to a tweet over the course of a week.

There are some things I can do from the graph above:

It is clear that the standard tweet has better opinions compared to the reply tweet.

Saturday's scores are heavily influenced by the overall tweet.

2x Impression of Impression Answer Tweet from Standard Tweet.

An impression is stable from Tuesday to Friday.

I look deeper into what day has the best engagement rate. I'm going to use the same data to create a different graph.

Social (Freemium)

One-stop solution for social Twitter analytics, keyword analysis, hashtag tracking, identifying trending topics, and more.

This tool has an interactive dashboard that helps you track relevant keywords on a real-time basis. You can use it to work with your audience (not to mention your handle) or to know how your competitors are doing. In addition to monitoring the brand, the tool can be used to identify relevant influencers and experts related to your domain.

FollowerWank (Freemium)

Followers is a product developed by Moz. It gives you information about your Twitter followers, location, and niche. To use, you must sign in using your Twitter account. It is free to use.

Followers are using social authority to measure Twitter's influence. Social power is measured on the basis of retweets. To improve the score, you need to increase Twitter engagement.

If you need more tools, here are 6 Twitter analytics tools to explore. By identifying how your brand is performing, you can plan for your direction and resources.

There is no single formula for tracking your Twitter score. The impressive score is different from each platform. Just stick to one or two metrics and move up your score.

The best way to measure a social score is by your nearest competitor.
